The Swimming Teachers’ Association can act for you as an umbrella body for the purpose of obtaining DBS disclosure on yourself, employees and volunteers.
The DBS charge is £52.32 per applicant for Enhanced and £32.32 per Basic Disclosures (excluding post office fees). There is no charge from the DBS for volunteers for either level of disclosure, although they will have to pay an administrative charge of £22.55.
DBS checks are requested through First Advantage Online Disclosures. In order to request a DBS check you will need to self-register online. We offer the following types of disclosures:

- What is the Disclosure and Barring Service?
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) replaces the functions of what was previously known as the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) for England and Wales, which worked in conjunction with the Independent Safeguarding Authroity (ISA) for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. It carries out checks for organisations and employers to try and prevent the hiring of unsuitable people to work with children and vulnerable groups.

- Who needs a DBS check?
Any employee, volunteer or self-employed person working with children and/or vulnerable adults is required to have a DBS check.
- What is the difference between a Basic Disclosure and an Enhanced Disclosure?
A Basic Disclosure checks for spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings. An Enhanced Disclosure includes the same as the Basic Check, plus any additional information held by local police that is considered relevant to the work being applied for. Additionally the Enhanced Disclosure includes a check of DBS barred lists, which provide information, if applicable, of any barring decisions that have been made under its powers within the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006.
- From what age is a DBS check required?
Anyone over the age of 16 must obtain a DBS disclosure if they are working with children or vulnerable adults.
- How long will the process take?
When applying for a DBS disclosure, the process should take approximately two weeks from the point of completing your self-registration and submitting all necessary documents.
- Is my DBS disclosure transferable to another job?
The Disclosure and Barring Service offers individuals the option to keep their DBS disclosures up-to-date using an online service.
