For Paula Murphy to take up the new position of PE advisor with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) in September, she needed to revalidate her lifesaving and swimming teaching certificate.

Paula lived in Cyprus at the time and was planning to fly to the UK, but when this ASA course was cancelled at the last minute, she rang the STA who was able to come to the rescue. STA’s Irene Joyce was tutoring in Cyprus at the time and was able to place Paula on a course organised by Julie Jones, Pool Manager of Akrotiri Swimming Pool.

This chance meeting has now led to Paula taking STA to ADEC, where working in the primary state sector she intends to develop the PE curriculum using the ILSP.
