STA get Physical with the Launch of a New Aquacise Qualification

For those who love aquatics and fitness and want to share their passion, STA has launched an all-new STA Level 2 Award in Aquacise qualification.

Endorsed against the CIMSPA Core Group Exercise Instructor professional standard, the new aquacise qualification has been developed by STA to train learners on how to professionally plan and instruct fun, motivating, and inclusive aquacise classes for participants of all abilities.

Helen Done, Qualifications and Business Development Manager at STA, says;

“We are very excited to launch this qualification today. It has been in development for a while, which included forming a working group to ensure it is of the highest standards for learners, tutors and employers. Plus, with the STA Award in Aquacise qualification gaining recognition from CIMSPA, the sector’s-chartered institute, it will also serve to support the aquatic and fitness workforce with their professional, continuous development.”

The STA Level 2 Award in Aquacise has been specifically created for learners employed in leisure, or who are new to the sector and would like to pursue a career as an aquacise instructor. For swimming teachers or fitness instructors, the qualification will expand their portfolio and open up new income opportunities. In fact, as no previous experience is required, the STA Award in Aquacise qualification is open to anyone who loves aquatics and fitness and wants to gain a professional qualification in aquacise instruction.

To support accessibility in gaining the qualification, STA has created two online pre-course programmes that learners complete prior to attending the 3-day face-to-face course. These programmes cover two out of the three units within the qualification and can be completed at learners’ convenience and revisited as many times as required prior to attending the course.

There is also a seamless process to recognise prior learning for the two pre-course online programmes. For example, if a learner holds a CIMSPA endorsed Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instruction / Gym / Exercise to Music qualification and / or STA Level 2 Award in Teaching Swimming / STA Level 2 Award in Aquatic Teaching – Baby and Pre-School, STA will recognise prior learning for one or both of the pre-course programmes.

Helen adds: “The wider benefits of having more professionally trained aquacise instructors on poolside is that exercising in water is a great way for people of all ages and abilities to improve their health and well-being. Exercising in water not only works most muscle groups and the cardiovascular system, but it is also low impact on joints. This also makes it a perfect activity for anyone who has arthritis, joint problems, or anything else that makes other types of land-based exercise difficult. Plus, it’s a very sociable activity and we now can’t wait to see our newly STA-trained aquacise instructors on poolside promoting a healthy lifestyle in a fun, secure environment.”
