Championing the Importance of how to #LOVEWATERSAFELY all Around the World

Today marks the start of our annual International Learn to Swim Week (ILSW) awareness campaign, and we are delighted to confirm that we have more than 30 countries taking part this year, who will all be championing the importance of learning to swim and how to #LoveWaterSafely.

The format on our social media channels for the week-long campaign is as follows:
  • Monday 13th May – Celebrating the important role swimming teachers play in helping participants of all ages and abilities gain a key life skill and a lifelong enjoyment of the water
  • Tuesday 14th May – Open Water Swimming
  • Wednesday 15th May – Baby and Pre-school Swimming (Emma Holden will also be joining us for a free webinar on ‘Safety Skill Progression through Summer Themed Activities’ at 11am)
  • Thursday 16th May – First Aid
  • Friday 17th May – Water Safety (this also includes releasing an updated version of our water safety presentation, which can be used in school assemblies and in the local community)
  • Saturday 18th May – Inclusion Inclusion (we will be releasing the impact results from our recent STArLIGHT charity campaign, and sharing our new Day in the Life of a Disability Swimming Teacher)
  • Sunday 19th May – Mindfulness and Wellbeing (and this links with ILSW running concurrently with Mental Health Awareness Week)

Follow us for all the latest news, and tag us into your #ILSW24 posts using the hashtag #LoveWaterSafely – we will share as many as possible to our Stories.

Other ways you can take part this year, include:

Download, promote and share the link to our free water safety booklet

Register your participation, and download the free PAW Patrol water safety lesson plans, which can be used during the #LoveWaterSafely campaign this week, or throughout the summer and beyond.

Finally,

While we are shining on a light on the importance of learning to #LoveWaterSafely all this week, it’s equally as important, especially as we approach the summer months, that we continue to spread awareness and keep the Water Safety Code at the forefront.

As recently seen during the National Fire Chiefs Council #BeWaterSafe campaign, there was a 46% increase in accidental drownings in children in 2022 compared to the 5-year average. All year-round water safety education is therefore crucial and can save lives.
