Celebrating a Year of Digital Learning with Autism Swim
This month, STA is celebrating one year since partnering with Autism Swim to launch a range of online CPDs that promote inclusive, participant-centered swimming lessons.
Autism Swim, the world leaders in inclusive aquatics, combined its expertise with autism specialists, behaviour specialists, aquatic/occupational therapists, swimming teachers, and most importantly, those with lived experience to create the inclusive CPD’s, and 12 months on they have greatly benefited hundreds of STA swimming teachers.
As a special thank you to all those who have so far completed the CPDs, here is a video message from Autism Swim’s new General Manager, Antoinette Spear:
The CPD’s specialist subjects cover Dyspraxia and ADHD, Behaviour Support, Communication, Neurodiversity and Aquatics, Introduction to Neurodiversity, Sensory Based Sessions and Visual Scheduling; and these topics will be expanded upon over time. Each has been designed to give teachers an awareness and an understanding of how teaching practices can be adapted and modified to support and meet each learner’s specific needs, preferences and goals.
Autism Swim’s CPDs also support the STA Award in Aquatic Teaching – Disability Swimming qualification, and align with STA’s aims for helping swimming teachers gain the skills, knowledge, and the confidence they need to deliver inclusive lessons – lessons that allow participants to meet their individual goals in a safe and fostering environment. Bundle offers are also available.
