STA Grants Support to a Village Gem

STA is running a year-long charity campaign called CommUNITY STArters, which is directly aimed at supporting not-for-profit organisations or groups; to help them start or boost a community-based grassroots swimming / water safety / aquatics related project.

As part of this campaign, each month in 2024, one organisation / group / project will be chosen to receive a £1000 charity grant from STA. To date five amazing projects have been granted funding, and we are delighted to confirm that Metheringham Swimming Pool in Lincoln now joins them as the recipient of the June award.

Metheringham Swimming Pool, which is regarded as the gem of the village, was built back in 1975. The pool was originally dug out with spades by the villagers, who wanted the school children in Metheringham to have the opportunity to learn to swim. The pool is now entirely run and operated by volunteers from the community who organise fundraising all year round. They provide open swims for all ages, parent and toddler swims, pensioner swims, fitness classes and sessions for vulnerable young adults from a local care home. In the 2023 season, over 10,000 swimmers used the pool.

Ali Beckman, STA’s President said; “I have chosen Metheringham Swimming Pool because they would like to increase their offering to provide gentle exercise-based swimming lessons for elderly swimmers who either have a fear of water or have not swum for some time, and introduce autism-friendly swimming lessons. Our CommUNITY STArters grant will go a long way to allowing that to happen. Well done Metheringham Swimming Pool.”

Karen Ann Rymer, a Trustee at Metheringham Swimming Pool, said: “We are very grateful to the STA for awarding us the CommUNITY STArters grant and we can’t wait to share the good news.”
