The Octonauts series features six awards that have been designed by STA to keep learners ages 2 to 7 years old, of all swimming levels, motivated at any stage of their aquatic development.
These awards focus on the most popular Octonauts characters, including Captain Barnacles and Kwazii, with each award centring around the character’s individual personalities. Teachers can use them multiple times to reward children for specific single achievements and milestones.
As a standalone swimming awards programme, the Octonauts certificates and badges can be used to support all learn to swim programmes, not just STA’s.
I’m Brave Like Captain Barnacles
Captain Barnacles is a brave polar bear extraordinaire and the leader of the Octonauts crew. He’s always the first to rush in and help whenever there’s a problem. Besides adventuring, Barnacles enjoys playing his accordion and writing in his captain’s log.
This instant recognition award can be used to reward any learner, multiple-times for specific single achievements and milestones, by being brave like Captain Barnacles!
For example:
- Jumping in the water for the first time
- Swimming without support for the first time
- Submerging underwater to retrieve a submersible.
I’m an Explorer Like Kwazii
Kwazii is a daredevil orange kitten with a mysterious pirate past. He loves excitement and travelling to exotic places. His favourite hobbies include racing the Gup-B and general swashbuckling.
This instant recognition award can be used to reward any learner, multiple-times for specific single achievements and milestones, by being an Explorer like Kwazii!
For example:
- Successfully collecting a toy from the water
- Swimming through a submerged hoop
- Rotating from front to back or back to front
I’m Cool Like Peso
Peso is the medic for the team. He’s an expert at bandaging and always carries his medical kit with him in case of emergencies. He’s not too fond of scary things, but if a creature is hurt or in danger, he can be the bravest Octonaut of all!
This instant recognition award can be used to reward any learner, multiple-times for specific single achievements and milestones, by being Cool like Peso!
For example:
- Performing a star float
- Blowing bubbles under the water
- Climbing onto a raft and jumping off
I’m Talented Like Dashi
Dashi oversees operations in the Octopod HQ and launch bay. She monitors the computer systems and manages all ship traffic. She’s also the Octonauts’ official photographer and enjoys taking photos of undersea life.
This instant recognition award can be used to reward any learner, multiple-times for specific single achievements and milestones, by being Talented like Dashi!
For example:
- Taking a toy for a ride on a float
- Pushing a ball across the pool
- Swimming through a hoop
I’m Clever Like Shellington
Shellington is a sea otter scientist who loves doing field research and working in his lab. He’s easily distracted by rare plants and animals, but his knowledge of the ocean is a big help in Octonaut missions.
This instant recognition award can be used to reward any learner, multiple-times for specific single achievements and milestones, by being Clever Like Shellington!
For example:
- Answering a water safety question
- Helping a friend or the swimmer teacher
- Repeating a learnt skill from the previous lesson.
I’m Good Like Tweak
Tweak is the mechanical engineer for the Octopod and maintains all Octonauts’ vehicles. She loves to make modifications for specific missions and enjoys building strange contraptions that sometimes work in unexpected ways.
This instant recognition award can be used to reward any learner, multiple-times for specific single achievements and milestones, by being Good Like Tweak!
For example:
- Bicycle riding on a woggle
- Kicking legs whilst on a woggle
- Blowing bubbles
These awards are extremely flexible and ideal for keeping any learner motivated at any stage of their swimming development. There are no age restrictions, and as you set the reason for the awards there are endless possibilities!
