We Need Your Help!

Today with more than 18,000 members, the Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA) is an independent educational charity that works to preserve human life through the teaching of swimming, lifesaving and survival techniques to people of all ages and abilities.

Drowning continues to be one of the leading causes of accidental death in children – in fact people in the UK and Ireland are more likely to die from drowning than they are from being hit by a car or in a domestic fire. On average 402 people accidentally drown every year in the UK and many more also suffer life-changing injuries, through non-fatal accidents.

STA works with communities in the UK and around the world as part of its charitable objectives, and supports the most vulnerable in helping to promote the importance of learning how to swim and water safety. Every year in May, STA also runs International Learn to Swim Week, a campaign dedicated to helping promote the importance of learning to swim and water safety.

This is an incredibly huge and important task, and especially at this time with children having missed out on the vital opportunity to swim as a result of the pandemic, leaving a dramatic gap in school swimming and water safety education.

School Swimming in Arun

In 2018, STA was tasked with managing the £150,000 funding that was donated by Inspire Leisure to promote the benefits of swimming across the district of Arun. School swimming was prioritised as part of the funding project.
