Helping Swimmers Chill in East Kent

For 2024, STA is running a year-long charity campaign called CommUNITY STArters, which is directly aimed at supporting not-for-profit organisations or groups; to help them start or boost a community-based grassroots swimming / water safety / aquatics related project.

As part of this campaign, each month in 2024, one organisation / group / project will be chosen to receive a £1000 charity grant from STA, and we are delighted to confirm that the recipient of the February award is Chill East Kent.

Ali Beckman, STA’s President said: “I found it particularly hard to choose this month as all were worthy of recognition however, I have selected Chill East Kent, a not-for-profit organisation, passionate about providing as many free open water sessions as possible (funding permitted) to help people manage anxiety, depression and other illnesses. With funding from CommUNITY STArters they can provide more courses and educate more people about cold water swimming and safety.”

Chill East Kent are also working with the local community to educate on the benefits and safety aspects of cold water swimming and were recently invited by Kent Police to speak about cold water safety.

Ali added: “With Summer on the way, more people will be heading into open bodies of water and education is key to keep people safe. As an open water swimmer myself, I’m aware of the health benefits and love the idea of more people being able to access the activity to aid their health and well-being. Well done Chill East Kent!”
