Making a Splash in Moretonhampstead
Every month this year, one not-for-profit organisation / group / project will receive a £1000 charity grant as part of our CommUNITY STArters campaign, which can be used to help start or boost a community-based grassroots swimming / water safety / aquatics related project.
The winner of April’s grant is Moretonhampstead community swimming pool, which is a voluntary run, 25m, open air swimming pool located on Dartmoor, Devon.
During May to September, Moretonhampstead offers general fun sessions, lane swimming, aqua fit, water polo and swimming lessons for all ages. They also support the local school, scouts and youth clubs and use the pool to train lifeguards.
Ali Beckman, STA’s President said; “Sadly, pools are closing at an alarming rate and it is amazing volunteer-led premises like this one at Moretonhampstead that support the local community. With CommUNITY STArters, the funding will help sessions to continue running in the town, which in turn will enable local children and adults to gain water confidence and swimming skills this summer.”
