Positive Step Forward for Swimming
The Swimming Teachers’ Association (STA) and Swim England have entered into a strategic partnership for the first time in history.
The two organisations have drawn up a Memorandum of Understanding with the aim of fostering collaboration in the swimming sector for the betterment of its stakeholders and the wider sector.
The agreement will see the two parties work closer together to promote the many benefits of aquatic activity, with a shared purpose to see everyone in England have the opportunity to swim and to see every teacher vacancy filled.
They will also continue to campaign for people across the country to have access to pools and blue spaces.
It is the first time the two organisations have entered such a partnership and is seen as a hugely positive step forward for swimming.
Dave Candler, Chief Executive Officer of the STA, said: “This Memorandum of Understanding represents a giant step forward for the aquatics workforce in England, and we are thrilled because we know how much it will mean to the swimming teaching community.
“Collaboration is key and by sharing our knowledge, and areas of expertise, we can help shape the future of grassroots swimming together; and in turn provide even greater opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to learn how to swim, and gain a key life skill.”
Swim England Chief Executive Andy Salmon said: “We are delighted to have drawn up a Memorandum of Understanding with the STA. It feels like a hugely significant moment for swimming in England.
“With so much opportunity on the horizon, the need for greater collaboration is greater than ever. This is an opportunity for us to work together to enhance the future of swimming in this country.
“We both have specific areas of expertise and it’s important that we recognise the importance of working together to promote the many benefits of swimming.
“We share a common bond because we want to see as many people as possible not only learning to swim and ensuring their safety but also enjoying time in and around water.”
